‘Powerful Pedagogy’ – How the Quality of Instruction course is improving teaching across the Trust.
Power of Pedagogy
Teaching is indeed a multifaceted endeavour, requiring adaptability and responsiveness to each child's unique needs. The PACE Quality of Instruction program is a valuable resource for Greensand teachers, offering a comprehensive pedagogical toolkit to navigate these complexities.
Through the ‘Dimensions of Great Teaching’ series, educators are empowered to enhance their practice and foster meaningful learning experiences. The program emphasises eight core principles of instruction, backed by solid evidence, and encourages collaboration amongst teachers from various phases. This cross-phase dialogue enriches understanding of pedagogy and ultimately benefits student learning across Trust schools.
Clarissa, a Languages Teacher at Reigate School, highlights the program’s impact on her professional development. She appreciates the interactive nature of the course and its focus on practical strategies, such as the use of mini whiteboards. This tool has become integral to her lessons, helping her address diverse learning needs and effectively challenge students.
Georgia, a History Teacher also at Reigate, emphasises the value of reflection and peer collaboration. Her experience observing Year 1 students using mini whiteboards for assessment reinforced the potential of these strategies in her own secondary classroom, inspiring her to incorporate similar techniques.
